MISSING PATTERNS
As well as the wonderfully kind things knitters say about my patterns, we also receive a great deal of other interesting/ intriguing/surprising information in our postbag. One such topic concerns those knitters who need to replace their patterns for a variety of reasons. Apart from desperately wanting to obtain new copies, the explanations for what happened to the patterns are amazing. Read on.
The patterns disappeared in the house move.
They have been put out with the rubbish or newspapers, (usually the husband’s fault – in the dog-house for days!).
They have been left on the train, bus or in the taxi.
They got misplaced during the house decoration.
They were stolen with the briefcase/luggage/ from the car.
They have been destroyed in the house fire or domestic flood.
They were accidentally put out with recycled papers.
Coffee, tea, soup, water or juice was spilt on the patterns and the pages have glued together.
They were taken or destroyed in the break-in.
The puppy or cat chewed them.
The grandchild tore them up.
Many knitters want to replace patterns (sometimes several times) because they have been over-used! Or as we like to say ‘over-loved’. We have wonderful examples of these tatty, worn out, disintegrated patterns. Some of these booklets are shown here.

Lastly, there are lots of knitters who have been generous enough to loan out their patterns but have never had them returned! Friends ‘forget’ where they put them and sometimes say they got lost, or even deny that they were borrowed at all.
So knitters – be warned. We have the evidence on hand that this is a problem and we advise that lending out your pattern is not such a good idea. No matter how amicable the arrangement may be, hang onto your precious patterns!
Better still, next time someone asks to borrow your pattern ‘just to knit that cute doll’, refuse very gently and simply point them in the direction of our website.
