HARRY HILL AND PETER THE DUCK
Saturday night, 20th March 2010 – Harry Hill’s TV Burp show and final of The K Factor competition … The Winner (drum roll) Peter the Wingless Duck!!!!
Apparently Peter is hot news, world famous and now beloved by people all over the planet. Knitted by Andrew Hunt, a teacher in Croydon, everyone now wants a Peter of their very own. And guess what dear reader, Peter was knitted from one of my patterns and is in fact, a Jean Greenhowe creation!
Here is the real-life history of the little fellow:-
In the year 1990 many moons ago, I was busy producing designs for our next publication titled ‘Knitted Animals’. A couple of ducks turned into a family because as my fans will know, I am very fond of ‘family’ themes. My Duck Family is pictured to the right – Mother, Father, two Youngsters and a wee Chick, just hatched. You will recognise Peter in his bobble hat.
The Duck Family is now happily celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2010, as well as celebrating with the countless Duck Families which have been made by thousands of knitters during the last twenty years.
So what about Peter and me? Obviously Andrew Hunt chose the name for his duck and I think it suits him beautifully. By the way, I understand that Andrew also knitted the entire family which was very thoughtful, because Peter will need their support with his new-found wingless fame. I had a word with my originals and they are quite excited with the TV connection, but hope that Peter will eventually have wing attachments so that he can flap about like a young duck should if he wants to.
Knitted Animals is available from knitting shops and also from some department stores which stock knitting yarns and patterns. It can also be ordered on line from various companies listed on our website. Click on the Where to Buy link for more information.
Finally, a big thank you from me to all of you who voted for Peter. I believe that you did so because he was small and sweet and vulnerable and needed a lot of loving and that is exactly what he got.
